Palestinian Officer Arrested, Fired for Criticizing Abbas over Peres Funeral

Palestinian military liaison officer Osama Mansour Abu Arab

A Palestinian officer was arrested by security forces after he criticized Palestinian Authority President for attending the funeral of the ex-Israeli President, Shimon Peres

Alwaght- A Palestinian officer was arrested by security forces after he criticized Palestinian Authority President for attending the funeral of the dead Israeli President, Shimon Peres.

Osama Mansour Abu Arab was taken into custody after criticizing Mahmoud Abbas on his Facebook account. He was arrested in the northern occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Saturday morning, Maan news agency reported.

Abu Arab had in his post scoffed at Abbas for offering condolences on the death of Peres, describing him as “the founder of settlement expansion activities.”

“Whether Peres was a terrorist or not, whether he formulated the policy of breaking Palestinian bones during the First Intifada or not, whether he was involved in the 2002 Jenin refugee camp massacre, the massacre in al-Yasmeen neighborhood of Nablus, or the 1996 Qana massacre (in Lebanon) – who is he that you are going to participate in his funeral while the majority of the people you represent oppose him?” the Facebook post read.

A Palestinian source said Abu Arab had received a notification of dismissal from work as a major in the Palestinian Authority military liaison office hours before his arrest.

Shimon Peres is wildly known as a war criminal for his infamous massacre of 160 Lebanese civilians in a UN refugee camp in Qana in 1996.

The Israeli Maariv newspaper recently reported that Peres was the authority ordering the killing of Palestinians in the first intifada and the terror of Hamas commander, Ayyash in 1996.

Mahmoud Abbas attended his funeral despite widespread protests among Palestinians. He sought a permission from the Israeli regime to enter the occupied lands for the ceremony.
