Alwaght– The death toll of a migrants’ boat that capsized off the Egyptian coast has raised to 165, Egypt's Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed told Xinhua News Agency on Friday.
The boat was carrying 600 people, apparently heading for Italian shores to enter Europe, but capsized near Cairo due to bad weather.
"The number of the death toll might rise because the rescue efforts are still going on," Megahed said
The boat was possibly involved in human trafficking which is common on Italian shores. Egyptian authorities have arrested four crew members over human trafficking charges.
The EU's border agency Frontex warned that a growing number of migrants bound for Europe is turning to Egypt as a departure point for the sea voyage.
