Alwaght – Hundreds of Bahraini protesters took to the streets on Friday to condemn a state imposed ban on Friday Prayers.

The protesters in Diraz, northwest of the country, started their demonstrations after security forces cut their path to the local mosque for prayers.

They chanted slogans supporting the top opposition leader, Sheikh Isa Qassim whose Bahraini citizenship was revoked by the ruling monarchy.

Sheikh Qassim was a member of the Constitutions Founding Council in Bahrain but faced the firm fist of the regime when demanded equal rights for the majority Shiite Muslims in the country.

Bahraini ruling monarchy also called the main opposition party of al-Wefaq illegal and banned the Islamic Enlightenment Institution, founded by the 79-year-old cleric.

Since February 14, 2011, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held numerous demonstrations in Bahrain on an almost daily basis, calling on the Al Khalifah dynasty to relinquish power.
