Iraq Declared 3-D Public Mourning as Death Toll from Devastating Blasts Climbs to 213

Alwaght- after a day from horrific explosion that rocked Iraqi capital, still-rising death toll reached to more than 213 and at least 200 injury, security and medical officials told AFP on Monday.

Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, declares three days of mourning as bombing turns into one of deadliest ever attacks in Iraq.

Two separate blasts on Sunday ripped through a crowded shopping area and sparked infernos in nearby buildings of the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, which were claimed by the ISIS terrorists.

The first explosion, a refrigerator truck packed with explosives, went off in Baghdad’s shopping area of Karada district and the second blast blew up shortly afterwards in Sha'ab district, which is located in the northern part of the city.

The second blast blew up shortly afterwards in Sha'ab district, which is located in the northern part of the city.

Baghdad was the scene of back-to-back bombings claimed by the ISIS terror group last month, when nearly 200 people lost their lives in and near the city in just a week.

Iraq's Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi declared a three-day public mourning in memory of those who were killed in suicide terrorist attacks.

In statement issued to the media, Mr.  Abadi said, “With deep sorrow, pain and sympathy, we mourn the martyrs of the tragedy of the heinous, dastardly and cowardly bombing at Karrada in Baghdad at dawn today. Dozens of sons of our dear people were killed in the attack.”

"With this deep pain, we announce three-day public mourning across the country starting today,” he added.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi vowed Sunday that his administration will punish the perpetrators of the twin bombings, saying that victory over Takfiri terrorists is close.

The Iraqi premier, who visited the site of the blast in Karradah, said the Daesh terrorists have desperately resorted to bomb attacks targeting civilians in the wake of their recent heavy defeats at the hands of the Iraqi army and volunteer fighters in the battlefront.

On June 18, Iraqi forces launched an offensive against ISIS terrorists to retake the southern part of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, and the town of Qayyarah, one day after the forces fully liberated the strategic city of Fallujah. ISIS proclaimed Mosul as its headquarters in Iraq when it overtook the city in 2014.
