No Pilgrimage for Gazans for 2nd Year as Egypt Keeps Borders Closed

Alwaght- 500 days passes from closure of Rafah crossing while 4500 patients are in need for treatment the committee for national movement to break the siege in Gaza revealed.

Palinfo website quoted Alaa al-Battah as saying that Rafah crossing has been closed since last October. It was open exceptionally for 31 days 8 of which in one direction and 4 of which for pilgrims and the rest of days for the entry of the bodies of the dead only.

Battah, Coordinator general of the committee, in a press conference held on Wednesday in Gaza pointed out that the closure of Rafah crossing deprives the people in Gaza of 30% of medications and that 80% of Gazans receive relief aid from international institutions and charities.

The percentage of poverty has been increased to 40% and the unemployment percentage reached 45%, he added.

Egypt restricts travel in and out of the war-torn enclave. Egypt has shut its border with the Gaza Strip since Oct. 24, citing security concerns in its northern Sinai Peninsula.

Battah appealed to King of Saudi Arabia Salman Bin Abdul Aziz to urgently intervene for opening the Rafah border crossing.

He revealed that a hashtag will be launched Wednesday evening for opening the crossing and called on all Twitter followers to support it.

The closure is affecting Gazans already disaffected by Tel Aive regime's 2014 war against that killed over 2000 and destroyed thousands of homes and has displaced tens of thousands of people.
