ALWAGHT- According to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the three sessions of indirect negotiations with the United States focused exclusively on nuclear matters and the lifting of sanctions against Iran.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that three rounds of indirect talks with the US in April—held in Oman and Italy—focused solely on nuclear issues and sanctions relief. He emphasized that Tehran would only engage in negotiations if sanctions were lifted, praising Oman’s mediation and noting the latest discussions were "much more serious," with technical experts now involved. Despite lingering disagreements, Araghchi described the atmosphere as "cautiously hopeful."
The next round of talks is tentatively scheduled for May 3, with Oman deciding the location. Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will continue leading the discussions, joined by Iranian nuclear experts from the Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI). Araghchi expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating the US showed "determination," though outcomes remain uncertain.
While acknowledging unresolved macro-level disputes, Araghchi reiterated cautious optimism about reaching an agreement. The inclusion of technical experts signals a deeper engagement, but the path forward hinges on Washington’s willingness to address Iran’s core demand: the removal of sanctions in exchange for nuclear concessions.
