Iran Denounces Terrorist Attacks in Russia’s Dagestan

ALWAGHT- The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the terrorist attacks on religious buildings in Derbent and a police post in Makhachkala that occurred on Sunday, resulting in the deaths and injuries of Russian civilians.

In a statement on Monday, Nasser Kanaani expressed condolences to the Russian government and people, offered sympathy to the families of the victims, and wished a swift recovery for those injured in the terrorist attacks in Dagestan.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran views terrorism of any kind as a threat to human society and international security. We stress the necessity for the international community to show serious resolve and take effective action against this common threat to humanity," he stated.

On Sunday, gunmen attacked churches, a synagogue, and a police post in Russia’s North Caucasus region of Dagestan, killing at least 15 police and National Guard officers, several civilians, and an Orthodox priest.

At least 12 people were injured in the attacks, which took place in Derbent and Makhachkala during the Russian Orthodox Church's Pentecost festival.

These attacks come three months after approximately 133 people were killed when gunmen opened fire at a rock concert in Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of Moscow.
