Alwaght- About a week ago, the US navy in the Red Sea conducted a cyberattack on an Iranian spying ship, American media outlets claims.
The warship, Behshad, is working like a maritime intelligence base and collected data on movement of ships in the international waters, American media claimed.
The cyberattack, which occurred more than a week ago, was part of the Biden administration’s response to the drone attack in Iraq that killed three US service members in Jordan and wounded dozens of others late last month, NBC news cited American officials as saying.
The operation, the US claimed, was intended to inhibit the Iranian ship’s ability to share intelligence with Ansarullah Movement in Yemen that is imposing a maritime ban on Israeli ships and ports in solidarity with Gaza.
Iran is yet to comment on the incident, but it more than once rejected that its ship was for spying.
In his interview with NBC last week, Iran’s envoy to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, denied claims that MV Behshad had been collecting intelligence for the Houthis. The ship was deployed to the Red Sea “to combat the piracy activities,” he insisted.
When asked whether Tehran had been providing arms to the Houthis, Iravani replied by saying: “Not at all.” The Yemeni fighters “have their own weapons” and themselves decided how to use them, he said. “We are not directing them. We are not commanding them. We have a common consultation with each other,” the diplomat added.
