Lebanon Security Forces Arrest Man Suspected of Spying for Israel’s Mossad

Lebanon Security Forces Arrest Man Suspected of Spying for Israel’s Mossad

Alwaght- Lebanese security forces have arrested a man suspected of spying for Israeli regime’s Mossad spy agency and collaborating with the regime’s authorities through collecting sensitive information and taking pictures of important centers in the Arab country.

According to a report published by the Arabic-language Rai-al-Youm newspaper, the man, whose identity was not immediately known, was detained by members of the General Security Directorate.

The report added that the suspected Mossad spy had been in contact with Israel’s spy agency for a while.

Rai-al-Youm noted that Lebanese security forces initially raided the suspect’s home in Aramoun village, but could capture him in Choueifat city southeast of the capital Beirut.

Lebanon has arrested 185 people suspected of collaborating with Israel since the country’s economic crisis began more than three years ago, with some receiving jail terms of up to 25 years.

That number has jumped significantly from a previous average of four or five arrests a year, a security source said last December.

Lebanon has been battered by a severe financial and economic crisis since 2019 that has caused the national currency to crash, led banks to freeze deposits and plunged much of the population into poverty.

“This was a boon for the Israelis, who targeted Lebanese on social media with job advertisements for phony companies,” the source said.

Lebanon technically remains at war with Israel and forbids citizens from having any contact with Israeli institutions or traveling to the occupied territories.
