Johnson Calls for Targetting Russian Access to Gold Reserves

Johnson Calls for Targetting Russian Access to Gold Reserves

Alwaght- The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on the Western allies to block the Russian government's access to its gold reserves around the world as an additional action to "shorten" Russian campaign in Ukraine.

In an interview with LBC Radio on Thursday, Johnson called on the West to “do more economically.” The British premier, according to RT news, went on to suggest that some extra measures could be applied to stop President Vladimir Putin from “using his gold reserves for instance, in addition to his cash reserves.” Johnson argued that the “more pressure we apply now, particularly on things like gold,” the shorter Russia’s military campaign would be.

Putin has already crossed a “red line,” with the British leader claiming that the Russian head of state “should appear before the International Criminal Court, according to Johnson.

Johnson made the claims as he was commenting on the ongoing operation in Ukraine.

In contrast, describing Ukraine’s president, Johnson was unabashed in his praise of Volodymyr Zelensky, going so far as to compare him to Winston Churchill – the British prime minister who led the Britain during WWII. “Absolutely brilliant” and “remarkable” were the epithets Johnson used when speaking of Ukrainian President.

The comments are coming ahead of NATO summit on Thursday. The Western alliance is expected to focus on the situation in its eastern frontiers.

President Vladimir Putin of Russia ordered a "special operation" in Ukraine on February 24, claiming that it was needed both for Russian national security and for protection of the breakaway regions of Dontesk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine Putin had recognized as independent republics three days earlier.
