One killed, Scores Injured as Israeli Forces Fire on Boats Attempting to Break Gaza Siege

Alwaght- Israeli regime forces have killed at least seven Palestinians and injured 192 others after opening fire on anti-occupation protesters at the border of the besieged Gaza Strip with the occupied territories.

Ashraf Al-Qudra, a spokesperson for the health ministry in Gaza, told reporters that six Palestinians were killed and 112 others injured when Israeli soldiers opened fire on protesters on Friday in the eastern Gaza Strip.

Thousands of Palestinians joined demonstrations as part of the March of Return protests that started on 30 March to demand an end to Israel's 11-year blockade on Gaza and the right of return of Palestinian refugees to their hometowns in what is now Israel.

Qudra said four Palestinians - Ahmad al-Taweel, 27; Mohamed Ismail, 29; Ahmad Abu Ne’eim, 17; and Abdullah al-Daghma, 25 - were killed east of al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

Tamer Abu Ermanah, 27, was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers east of the town of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, he said.

Israeli soldiers also shot and killed Afifi Mahmoud Afifi, 18, in eastern Gaza City, Qudra said.

Gaza's health ministry said late on Friday that a seventh Palestinian was killed. His name was Mohamed Abbas.

According to the report, 192 Palestinians, including children and females, were wounded during the clashes, most of them with live fire.

Among those wounded, a girl was critically injured while five other people were in serious condition.

Tensions have been running high near the fence since March 30, which marked the start of a series of protests dubbed “The Great March of Return.” Palestinian protesters demand the right to return for those driven out of their homeland and an end to Israeli regime's 11-year blockade on Gaza.

The clashes in Gaza reached their peak on May 14, the eve of the 70th anniversary of Nakba Day, or the Day of Catastrophe, which coincided this year with Washington's relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem al-Quds.

More than 200 Palestinians have so far been killed and over 21,500 others wounded in the renewed Gaza clashes, according to the latest figures released by the Gaza Health Ministry.

Gaza has been under Israeli siege since June 2007, causing a decline in living standards as well as unprecedented unemployment and poverty.

Israel has also launched several wars on the Palestinian sliver, the last of which began in early July 2014 and ended in late August the same year. The Israeli military aggression killed nearly 2,200 Palestinians and injured over 11,100 others.
