Alwaght- Malaysian army is ready to perform its duty towards the issue facing al-Quds (Jerusalem), the country's Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has said.
“We have to be prepared for any possibilities. The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) has always been ready, waiting for instructions from the top leadership,” the Malaysian state news agency Bernama quoted Hussein.
The move by US President Donald Trump to recognize al-Quds as Israeli regime's capital city last Wednesday has drawn widespread condemnation from the Muslim world, including Malaysia which has long been sympathetic to Palestine which has been engaged in a decades-long conflict with the Zionist regime of Israel.
“We were shocked earlier this week with the worrisome news that would affect global geopolitical stability.
“We are ready for any orders from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, should our services be needed,” Hishammuddin, who is also defense minister, said in his winding-up speech at the 71st Umno general assembly.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak has said said he would attend a special meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) in Istanbul next week to voice Malaysia's protest about the US recognition of al-Quds as the capital of the usurper Israeli regime.
He said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had contacted him last Wednesday to request his presence at the meeting.
Speaking to delegates from Malaysia's ruling UMNO party, Mr Najib said that Trump's announcement al-Quds as the capital of Israel contravened the principle of sovereignty.
“Not only Muslims, the Christians are also not happy with the announcement, and so is the western world."
