ALWAGHT- As Netanyahu confirms a ground assault, families in Gaza City flee destroyed homes, facing worsening hardship amid ongoing strikes.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed a ground incursion into Gaza City, following weeks of intense airstrikes and high-rise demolitions. Reports indicate the operation began on the outskirts, proceeding gradually in stages, though incursions into neighborhoods like Tel al-Sabra and al-Zaytoun had already been underway, with temporary withdrawals and redeployments into areas such as Jabalia, al-Nuzlah, Sheikh Radwan, and Abu Askandar.
Israeli forces are employing a “displacement by fire” strategy, using limited armored maneuvers, airstrikes, artillery, and explosive devices to push residents out of key neighborhoods. The army is concentrated in three main sectors: Sheikh Radwan in the northwest, the coastal strip, and south of Tel al-Hawa. These tactics have caused widespread destruction in al-Saftawi, al-Jalaa, al-Karama, al-Sudaniya, and surrounding areas, intensifying mass displacement.
The slow, methodical advance, supported by relentless bombardment, has left large parts of Gaza City in ruins. Residents face overcrowded evacuation routes, including al-Rashid Street, while estimates indicate over 850,000 Palestinians remain trapped inside the city, many unable to relocate due to high costs and lack of transport.
