Alwaght- Sweden urges European Union to hold an emergency meeting on violation of Human Right in Saudi Arabia. Sweden insists on putting Saudi officials in the Union sanction list and decreasing purchase of oil from Saudi Arabia.
The Swedish government scraped lucrative weapon deal with Saudi Arabia, effectively bringing to an end a decade-old defense agreement with the kingdom. The move followed complaints made by the Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom that she was blocked by the Saudis from speaking about democracy and women's rights at a gathering of the Arab League in Cairo.
Margot Wallström had been invited as guest of honor to the Arab ministers’ meeting in Cairo after Sweden’s Social Democrats won general elections in September and announced they would become the first European Union member state to recognize Palestine .
But Saudi Arabia had “reacted strongly” to her government’s position on democracy and human rights, Wallström told reporters in Cairo on Monday, and blocked her speech in which she was due to “celebrate women’s achievements” and focus on women’s rights and representation .
