Alwaght- Iraqi army has begun an offensive to liberate Hawija district from ISIS domination, a military source told IraqiNews.
The ground forces will be supported by air strikes carried out by the international coalition.
“Units from Army’s 5th Brigade, East of Tigris Operations, al-Hashd al-Shaabi and Badr Organization will be used. Moreover, al-Hashd al-Ashaeri forces today have moved towards Hawija district in Kirkuk province in order to liberate it from ISIS control,” the source added.
ISIS captured the city years ago.
Dozens of families escaped ISIS in Hawija and made it to Peshmerga bases last week and ISIS terrorist group responded with beheading 13 civilians who helped them.
Civilians in ISIS controlled areas rushed to escape after the terrorist group suffered multiple defeats throughout Iraq and Syria.
