ALWAGHT- Five additional Palestinian journalists have been killed in separate Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, raising the total number of journalist deaths to 222 since the onset of Israel’s genocidal war on the besieged coastal enclave in early October 2023, according to local authorities.
Israeli airstrikes have recently claimed the lives of several Palestinian journalists and their families across the Gaza Strip. Among the victims were photojournalist Aziz al-Hajjar, his wife, and children, killed in the Saftawi neighborhood. Other journalists, including Abdul Rahman Tawfiq al-Abadleh, Nour Qandil, Khaled Abu Seif, and Ahmad al-Zinati, were also killed in separate attacks, many alongside their families. These deaths follow the recent killing of journalist Ahmed al-Halou.
The bombardments resumed on March 18 after Israel ended a two-month ceasefire with Hamas. Since then, thousands more Palestinians have been killed or injured in the renewed Israeli military campaign. The death toll in Gaza has surpassed 53,000, with the majority being women and children, and over 120,000 have been wounded.
International legal bodies have taken action in response to the war. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
