ALWAGHT- Iranian legislators voiced their solidarity with academic communities in the United States and Europe, which have organized protests in support of Palestine despite opposition from their respective governments.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 150 Iranian parliament members expressed their backing for university students and professors in the US and Europe who have organized demonstrations in solidarity with Gaza in recent weeks.
The Iranian lawmakers characterized the protests against Israel in Western nations as stemming from a sense of justice, compassion, and humanitarianism.
They noted that the pro-Palestine rallies in Western countries demonstrate the failure of mainstream media efforts to conceal Israeli atrocities in Gaza by distorting the truth.
The statement emphasized that the resolution to the Gaza crisis lies in a restoration of justice.
Over the past 11 days, more than 900 protesters have been detained across the United States as demonstrations opposing Israel's aggression against Palestinians, and advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza and divestment from companies associated with the Israeli regime, have proliferated on US campuses.
Certain universities have been compelled to cancel graduation ceremonies, while others have witnessed their facilities being occupied by protesters.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 34,535 Palestinians and left 77,704 others wounded.
