Alwaght- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced his decision on the "renewal" of the parliamentary election following the breakdown of negotiations with the opposition parties on the formation of a coalition government.
The call for snap election came late Monday after Mr. Erdogan met Turkish Parliament Speaker Ismet Yilmaz in a four-hour meeting.
"President negotiated with Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Ismet Yilmaz and decided on the renewal of parliamentary elections," said the presidency statement, Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported. The decision has also been published in the official gazette, urging the process of creating a caretaker government.
The deadline to form a coalition government expired on August 23 without agreement between the four parties that passed the threshold to pass the country's parliament.
The council of ministers will resign, letting Erdogan appoint a new Prime Minister tasked with the duty of forming a caretaker government.
Turkey’s election results showed that the Islamist movement in Turkey is still the focal point of people's attention, and is the first option of Turkey’s Muslim population. Nevertheless, it also showed that the Islamist Justice and Development Party (AKP) is paying the cost of strategic mistakes of its leaders; i.e. the AKP is suffering a crisis of leadership, rather than falling short of votes.
