Alwaght- Kurdish forces, Peshmerga, and Iraqi Popular Mobilization force have agreed to call it a draw and leave Tuz Khurmatu with local police taking temporarily the control of the disputed Tuz Khurmatu city.
Accommodating different types of ethics and thoughts including Kurds, Shiites Turkmen and Sunni Arabs, Tuz Khurmatu has been the scene of sporadic clashes over the past week.
Tuz Khurmatu is the central city of Tooz District in Saladin Province, Iraq, located 55 miles south of Kirkuk.
Taking about one month, Peshmerga and the Popular Mobilization forces will withdraw once the police forces achieve a balance between the town’s various ethnic and sectarian groups, Kurd official, Kareem Shkura, stated.
A truce was declared on Sunday, but sporadic mortar and gun fire continued until Wednesday.
Skirmishes erupted in Tuz Khurmatu late on Saturday when a small explosion near the positions of the two sides sparked shootings between the communities in neighborhoods across the town.
The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since ISIS terrorists began an offensive through Iraqi territory in June 2014.
