China Responds to Taiwan’s Push for Independence via US

ALWAGHT- Taiwan's efforts to seek independence with US support will inevitably result in a "tragic outcome," stated Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council, on Wednesday.

Taiwan's efforts to achieve independence with US support will undoubtedly end in failure, warned Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council, on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, Taiwan's Chief Executive Lai Ching-te congratulated US Senator Marco Rubio, who has been sanctioned twice by Beijing, on his appointment as secretary of state in President-elect Donald Trump's administration. Lai also expressed gratitude for Rubio's support for Taiwan.

"Regardless of who holds what position in the new US administration, Taiwan's status as part of China remains unchanged. Lai Ching-te's government, in pursuing independence with US backing, is destined for a tragic outcome and will ultimately suffer the consequences," Chen stated during a briefing.

Since 1949, Taiwan has been governed separately from mainland China. While Beijing considers the island a province of China, Taiwan operates under its own elected government and claims autonomy, though it stops short of declaring formal independence. Beijing opposes any official international engagement with Taipei, asserting its sovereignty over the island as indisputable.
