Araghchi: A German passport does not grant immunity to terrorists

ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi stated that a German passport does not provide immunity to anyone, especially to a terrorist, following Iran's execution of an Iranian-German national convicted of terrorism.

In a post on the social media platform X on Tuesday, Araghchi urged the German government to stop hiding behind "hypocritical human rights" slogans, reminding them of the chemical weapons supplied by Germany to Saddam Hussein’s regime during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.

This statement came after Germany protested the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, the leader of a US-based terrorist group who held German citizenship. In response, the German government recalled its ambassador to Tehran and summoned the Iranian charge d’affaires in Berlin to express its discontent.

Araghchi emphasized that “Iranian national Jamshid Sharmahd openly and unashamedly led a terrorist attack on a mosque that resulted in the deaths of 14 innocent people, including women and children, and left more than 200 injured. The evidence is public and accessible to all.” He reiterated, “A German passport does not grant immunity to anyone, especially not a terrorist criminal.”

Furthermore, the Iranian diplomat accused the German government of complicity in the genocide occurring in Gaza, highlighting that Germany is the second-largest supplier of lethal weapons to the Israeli regime. "Look around. Even your own people mock your arrogant claims of human rights," Araghchi remarked.
