Hezbollah Initiates Retaliatory Attacks on Israeli Positions and Illegal Settlements

ALWAGHT- In response to Israeli airstrikes on Lebanese towns, the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has launched new attacks on Israeli military positions and illegal settlements in the northern occupied Palestinian territories.

Hezbollah confirmed its recent military strikes in a statement on Monday, stating that they were conducted to support the Palestinian resistance in Gaza and to defend Lebanon. The group declared its solidarity with the Palestinian people, emphasizing its commitment to their struggle and to the protection of Lebanese citizens.

On September 30, 2024, Hezbollah targeted the "Sadah" site with artillery shells. In addition to this, they launched Fadi-1 missiles at the “Ovik” camp and deployed drones against Israeli forces at the “Ali-atakim” camp. Further artillery strikes were aimed at the “Ramia” site, while multiple Israeli settlements, including Safed, came under rocket fire.

Hezbollah stated that these attacks were a direct response to Israeli violations against Lebanese towns and were intended to bolster the Palestinian resistance in Gaza. This escalation occurs amidst ongoing Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon, which the Lebanese Government Emergency Committee reported as totaling 216 strikes in just 24 hours. The bombardment has resulted in significant casualties, with 105 people reported killed and 359 injured, particularly in southern Lebanon, the Bekaa, Baalbek-Hermel, and Beirut’s southern suburbs.

The Israeli airstrikes are widely viewed as retaliation for Hezbollah's backing of the Palestinian cause since Israel initiated its offensive on Gaza in October 2023. This latest surge in conflict follows the martyrdom of Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s long-time leader, who was killed by Israeli forces using bunker-buster bombs and US-made jet fighters in a strike on a Beirut suburb.
