Alwaght- As the war situation in Gaza goes complicated for the Israeli regime and the military operation runs into a dead end, Israeli media talk about a new plan put forward by the army generals to the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for future management of war.
According to the plan, Palestinians should be forced out of the Gaza's north, then the region be encircled, and the resistance groups be left between two choices of surrender or death.
According to Haaretz, the document, dubbed the "generals' plan", is designed by General Giora Eiland, the former commander of the operations unit of the army, in association with tens of high-ranking officers. According to the initiative, any region in North of Netzarim Corridor, central Gaza and all of its neighborhoods will be declared closed military area. The retired and reserve generals hope the plan goes operational by the cabinet as soon as possible.
Internal and international obstacles
This plan is presented as over the past 11 months of war, the occupation army has made no specific gains toward realization of the aims it stated at the beginning of war, and according to critics, the military stay in Philadelphi and Netzarim corridors that was adopted recently by the war cabinet cannot substantially help a deep change in the war scene in favor of the shaky Netanyahu cabinet.
Haaretz on Friday wrote that the generals' plan is unrealizable for multiple reasons.
It reported that after hearing Netanyahu's recent remarks, it seems that he is not looking for a new decision, but is looking to buy time, while he is considered a war criminal from the point of view of international law.
If the plan is approved and enforced, new procedures will be opened against Netanyahu and other Israeli officials at the International Court of Justice, in addition to the pressure of Israel's opposition forces, including the possible insubordination of the reserve forces, which could disrupt the plan.
"If Kamala Harris wins the US election in November, she may prevent Netanyahu from implementing his intentions. We should know that Netanyahu is in the final stages of his career and he is one of those who is looking to cling to power and escape from prison," said the newspaper.
The generals' initiative comes while the residents of neighborhoods of about 70 kilometers north of Gaza are still living in their houses since the beginning of Israel's aggression, and they refuse to respond to the army's orders to move south of Gaza, and therefore it is difficult to evict them.
Also, during the Gaza war, the occupation army failed to discover the Hamas tunnels, and the rocket attacks that Al-Qassam Brigades fire from time to time towards the occupied territories from the north of Gaza also show that even if we assume that the Israelis will achieve something on the ground, Hamas will continue to attack the enemy from inside the tunnels.
The Israeli army occupied Gaza from 1967 to 2005, but it was forced to leave this strip against its will, and due to the wave of aversion that has arisen among the residents of Gaza to the enemy, as well as the power gain of the resistance groups, this time, too, the occupation plan will go nowhere.
Additionally, the big challenge of Tel Aviv on the border with Lebanon remains unsettled, and on the northern front, Hezbollah's daily rocket attacks continue to rattle the Israeli settlers, and after nearly a year, the Israeli government has failed to return the displaced Israelis to their homes in the areas bordering Lebanon.
Security officials in northern areas have several times admitted that they are far from capable of countering Hezbollah and the ongoing clashes continue to paralyze life on the Israeli side.
The resistance groups in the region have repeatedly warned that as long as the war in Gaza continues, they will not stop their operations against the occupied territories, and therefore insisting on occupation of northern Gaza will inflame war in the region.
In the West Bank, the situation continues in the same way, and despite extensive operations in various parts of this region in recent weeks, the Israeli army has not achieved anything against the Palestinian fighters.
Aside from this, a new front from Jordan is opened against the Israelis, raising their worries. The involvement of the army in various fronts and lack of a clear horizon for end of war has spurred insubordination among the reserve forces, and now many of them do not want to return to Gaza war.
Netanyahu claims that he has managed to realize many of the aims of Gaza campaign, but other officials have views conflicting to his.
Amit Halevi, a member of the Foreign Relations and Security Commission of the Israeli Knesset, acknowledged the defeat of the army and announced that the regime has entered an "endless tunnel."
"The Israeli army has not defeated a battalion or even a group of the Hamas movement in the city of Rafah, and the published statistics of the casualties of this movement are overstated," he said.
One of the serious obstacles to the implementation of the generals' plan in Gaza is the position of the international community, which has opposed the plan to relocate the Palestinians and occupy the coastal strip.
Even the Arab countries have recently shown strong reactions to the approach of the Netanyahu government concerning Philadelphi Corridor, and insisting on ambitious plans can change the process of normalizing relations with the Arab countries.
Covering up the gaps with the army
Talking about a new plan by the army generals for Gaza occupation comes as crisis in war management and confusion of the military operations has become clear with the recent gaps between the war commanders and Netanyahu and his hardline ministers and this led to resignation of some high-ranking military and security officials.
Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in recent months have multiple times voiced their opposition to decisions of Netanyahu, asserting that continuation of the war will not serve security of the occupied territories. They call for striking a ceasefire deal with Hamas to release Israeli prisoners.
From the point of view of the security authorities, it is not possible to destroy Hamas, and the continuation of the war will only cost more and cause more casualties. Halevi and some senior commanders have repeatedly admitted that they failed to predict and deter October 7 attack and accepted responsibility for it, but Netanyahu evades responsibility for negligence.
Halevi and Gallant have even admitted several times the inability of military operations to free prisoners and protect their lives in order to put pressure on Netanyahu's government and hardline ministers. Because of this, the gap between security and political authorities has widened, and the military does not want to be credited with defeating the resistance groups in Gaza.
Even taking the posture of unity and coordination of the plans of the army and the government has failed to show itself in the official statements of the army.
For example, the army stated on Saturday: "We do not have enough forces to fight on several fronts at the same time. We don't know how this situation will end."
The Hebrew media revealed on Friday that more than a 1,000 Israeli officers with various military ranks have asked to resign and stop cooperation with the army.
Israeli media maintained that the army hid the request for the resignation of these soldiers due to the fear of internal chaos.
In this connection, Yossi Shariel, the commander of Unit 8200, an army unit responsible for cyber operations and intelligence collection, on Thursday reportedly informed his commanders and colleagues that he plans to resign. Yedioth Ahronoth reported that he handed over his resignation to Halevi. Reports also suggest that Halevi himself plans to hand over his resignation to Netanyahu in December.
By occupying northern Gaza, Netanyahu is trying to promote it as the achievement of the war against Hamas and restore the citizens' lost trust in his government, but the gap between the angry residents of the occupied territories and the government is so wide that it cannot be repaired with these measures.
Families of prisoners and other discontented Israelis have broadened the scope of protests against Netanyahu due to the repeated defeats of the army in Gaza and want a prisoner swap deal with the Palestinian resistance.
In such conditions, talking about a buffer zone and settlement construction in northern Gaza is just a short sweet dream of Netanyahu and his cabal amid waves of nightmares.
