ALWAGHT- The Mihail Koğalniceanu Military Base in Romania, originally constructed during the communist era on the Black Sea facing Crimea, has been modernized to enhance NATO's capabilities in Eastern Europe.
A surge of excavators and trucks moved through Dobruja, the expansive plateau overlooking the Black Sea in eastern Romania, according to Lemonde.
Amid this dry, relatively infertile landscape, machinery was already at work, digging, terracing, and outlining the future runway and airplane taxiways.
"What do you think?" asked Captain Engineer Aurel Bocai on Thursday, July 25, as he proudly surveyed the massive construction site, which had only begun a month and a half earlier.
The Mihail Kogălniceanu military base in Constanta, southeast Romania, along the Black Sea coast, is set to become NATO's largest military base in Europe, surpassing the size of the US military base in Ramstein, Germany.
This new base will enhance Romania's role in NATO's security framework and strengthen its strategic position in the Black Sea, an area largely dominated by Russian military power. By 2030, it will have the capacity to accommodate 10,000 soldiers and civilians.
