Iran and Pakistan have engaged in productive negotiations regarding a gas project

ALWAGHT- Hassan Nourian, the Iranian Consulate General in Karachi, highlighted that meaningful and effective discussions took place between Iranian and Pakistani authorities regarding the gas pipeline project.

Addressing journalists in Karachi, Hassan Nourian emphasized the significance of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's recent visit to the economic hub of Pakistan. He highlighted that the president's journey, covering Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, was prompted by the latest developments in bilateral relations.

Speaking on bilateral ties, Nourian noted that both parties committed to boosting trade between Iran and Pakistan to $10 billion in the upcoming years. Furthermore, agreements were made to enhance trade and energy collaboration, including the joint gas contract, which faced delays due to technical and political issues, Nourian elaborated.

Referring to the joint statement issued by Iran and Pakistan following Ebrahim Raisi's official visit, Nourian highlighted that both nations agreed to expedite the finalization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Additionally, they committed to convening upcoming meetings for annual bilateral political consultations, the joint trade committee, and the 22nd round of the Joint Economic Commission.

Regarding energy cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad, the Iranian Consulate General in Karachi emphasized that meaningful and productive discussions were conducted on the gas pipeline project. Iran acknowledges Pakistan's energy requirements and stands ready to provide stable and ample gas supplies to its neighbor.

Furthermore, he noted that Iran increased its electricity exports to Baluchistan and the Gwadar region of Pakistan to 200 megawatts last year, underscoring Iran's commitment to supporting Pakistan's economic development endeavors.
