Alwaght- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has described atrocities committed by the Zionist regime as the most shameful moral and humanitarian crisis in history.
Amirabdollahian made the remarks at the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in the Swiss city of Geneva on Monday.
The top Iranian diplomat said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is steadfast in respecting human rights and human dignity based on national and Islamic beliefs and values.
Unfortunately, the realization of the transcendent goals of human rights in the international arena faces several important challenges, he said, adding that the most significant challenge is the systematic and widespread "killing of humans" just by the apartheid and occupying Zionist regime in the world.
He noted that the world is facing the most shameful moral and humanitarian crisis, which is due to 80 years of comprehensive support and negligence towards the colonial occupation and the continuous fatal violation of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.
Stating that in the past 140 days, more than 100,000 people have been killed, injured, or buried in the rubble and that the living ones are also at high risk of imminent death from hunger and infectious diseases in Gaza and West Bank, Amirabdollahian underlined that the world should not let genocide and committing heinous crimes to become a normal routine.
Today, the world is witnessing the full support of the US and its allies for the Zionist regime, which is considered a genuine "complicity" in the genocide, Amirabdollahian highlighted.
He further noted that the UN Human Rights Council, as the most significant manifestation of the international bodies of human rights, must hold the Zionist regime and its supporters accountable for its crimes against humanity.
Undoubtedly, the impunity of Israel's officials during the past 8 decades has been the main reason for the continuation and escalation of the occupation and murder by this regime, he stressed, adding, "I emphasize that the trial and punishment of the perpetrators and commanders of the most serious international crimes committed against the Palestinians must be seriously placed on the agenda of the competent international institutions, especially the International Criminal Court."
The top Iranian diplomat also slammed the double standards and hypocritical behavior of Western states regarding women's human rights.
Global human rights have been stained and even blackened due to martyring a lot of women by the Zionist regime in Gaza, and the shameless killing of women and children continues in the form of genocide, he noted.
Restoring human rights status in the world requires that we should not allow the occupying regime to continue its genocide by countering attacks through air, sea, and land.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Amirabdollahian stressed that the ominous and dangerous phenomenon of terrorism and extremism continues to claim victims.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a country that has been at the forefront of the fight against terrorist groups and has offered many martyrs in this path, has always stressed the need for the serious determination of the international community and the cooperation of countries and international institutions for a decisive and effective fight against terrorism as a threat to the whole world, he underlined.
The elimination of terrorism requires stopping the instrumental use of terrorism by some powers, including the US, he stressed.
Unfortunately, some Western countries continue to host terrorist elements which is another example of contradiction and hypocrisy in the slogan of those who claim to be a advocates of human rights, he added.
Also, Amirabdollahian touched upon the Islamophobia issue in the West, stressing that Islam is a religion of mercy and humanity, and this challenge (Islamophobia) needs continuous consideration in the Human Rights Council.
The national, cultural, and religious values and beliefs of nations should be respected, the top Iranian diplomat added.
Referring to the unilateral and unjust sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran, Amirabdollahian said that the unilateral coercive actions systematically violate fundamental human rights in countries under sanctions and cause serious harm to people, underlining that imposing unilateral sanctions against nations is illegal and equivalent to a crime against humanity.
The top Iranian diplomat concluded that the Islamic Republic of Iran declares its unwavering commitment to the policy of cooperation and interaction as a key axis in its foreign policy, noting that Iran will use its national capacities to preserve and promote human rights based on its religious values, constitution, and legal obligations, and will not spare any efforts in this direction.
