China: Washington is responsible for the volatile Middle East situation

China emphasizes support for all efforts to establish peace in the Middle East

Alwaght- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met American Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Munich on the sidelines of ongoing Munich Security Summit, with top Chinese diplomat urging the US to honor its promises to China.

Beijing urges Washington to perceive China's development objectively and rationally, adopt a positive and pragmatic policy towards China, and honor President Joe Biden's commitments via concrete actions, China Daily newspaper cited FM Yi as saying on Friday.

During the meeting, the two sides had "candid, substantive and constructive discussions", the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The two heads of state had a successful meeting last year, where they exchanged in-depth views on strategic, overall issues for China-US relations and reached an important consensus.

The two officials addressed a range of issues from bilateral relations to regional and international developments.

Speaking on the situation in the Taiwan Strait, Wang stressed that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China's territory, which is the real status quo of the Taiwan question.

He warned that it is the "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and the connivance and support by external forces that are attempting to change the status quo.

"If the US genuinely hopes for stability across the Taiwan Strait, it should abide by the one-China principle and the three landmark China-US joint communiques, and carry out its commitment of not supporting "Taiwan independence", he said.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional issues including the Ukraine crisis and the Korean Peninsula, a statement by Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

China and the US have been experiencing chilly diplomatic ties as the Washington pushes with its agenda regarding Taiwan which Beijing describes as interventionist and not respecting the one-China principle.

However, the US seems to be shifting to China as Washington finds it unavoidable to seek Chinese help to calm down a boiling over situation in West Asia amid ongoing Israeli war on Gaza.

Earlier this month, American sources claimed that the White House reached out to Beijing to ask it to urge Iran persuade Yemen to remove a naval ban on Israel in the Red Sea in solidarity with Gaza, but China apparently refused to press its ally Tehran.
