Alwaght- Afghanistan army managed to regain the control in the northern Kunduz city after a brief Taliban domination on Monday.
The army commandos supported by helicopters attacked the Taliban forces who entered the city on early Monday claiming a control over the main square.
"Government controls Kunduz City and Afghan security forces are in control of the main square with additional troops coming," said NATO forces stationed in Afghanistan.
"The city center is now in our hands and not in their hands. We are launching an attack to clean up the area,” said Kunduz police Chief Kassim Jangal Bagh.
Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis revealed the United States carried out airstrikes against Taliban positions to assist the Afghan forces.
"The situation there remains fluid, we are continuing to watch it closely and to work with our Afghan partners," Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain Jeff Davis said adding that the US forces carried out airstrikes against Taliban in the city.
