US to Continue Providing Israel with Lethal Weaponry

US to Continue Providing Israel with Lethal Weaponry

ALWAGHT- The United States will continue its heightened military support to Israel, despite the ongoing conflict that has resulted in the deaths of at least 43,700 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The US State Department confirmed on Tuesday that it has no plans to reduce military support to Israel, with spokesperson Vedant Patel stating there are no changes in policy to announce. This decision comes despite Israel’s failure to meet a 30-day deadline, set by Washington itself, to increase aid flow to the conflict-ridden Palestinian territories.

The continuation of US lethal aid, even in light of Israel's non-compliance with the deadline, may contradict American laws prohibiting military assistance to entities committing “gross violations of human rights.” While the US annually provides Israel with over $3 billion in military aid, it has supplied $17.9 billion in weapons since last October, when Israel intensified its assault on Gaza.

According to the United Nations, this military offensive has resulted in more than 43,700 Palestinian deaths, with 70 percent of the casualties being women and children, primarily children aged five to nine. Additionally, over 103,400 people have been injured in the conflict.
