ALWAGHT- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi detailed the outcomes of the extraordinary summit of Arab and Islamic nations held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi detailed Iran’s stance and proposals following the extraordinary summit of Arab and Islamic nations held in Riyadh on November 11. He outlined the summit's main focus on responding to recent escalations in Palestine, especially Gaza, and in Lebanon, where ongoing Israeli actions have led to significant civilian casualties. Gharibabadi highlighted that Iran had advocated for a ceasefire, humanitarian aid access, the release of Palestinian prisoners, and international measures against Israel’s actions, including possible suspension of its UN membership.
He explained that Iran's diplomatic efforts began with a letter to the OIC secretary-general, followed by discussions at the UN, and culminated in the Riyadh summit. Iran presented written proposals to the OIC, many of which were incorporated into the draft resolution, including calls for enforcing international law, investigating alleged Israeli crimes, an arms embargo on Israel, and support for Palestine’s statehood.
The final summit resolution condemned Israel's actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, demanded accountability for violations of international law, and called for arms restrictions. The resolution also urged the international community to support Palestinian statehood, provide humanitarian aid, and condemn Israeli policies seen as oppressive or in violation of UN principles. Iran registered a reservation regarding the two-state solution in the resolution.
