Saudi Wahhabi Cleric Ready for Debate with Iraqi, Iranian Shiite Scholars

Alwaght- Sheikh Abdullah bin Sulaiman AI Manea an advisor to the Saudi monarchy has declared readiness for debate and talks with Shiite Islamic scholars from Iran and Iraq.

In an interview with the Saudi Al Madina newspaper, he boasted that the dialogue is meant to present ‘the right path’ to the Shiite scholars. He further claimed that, Wahhabi scholars arguments are based on the Holy Qur’an and the Sunna or teachings of the Prophet PBUH.

The high ranking Wahhabi Mufti in Saudi Arabia said there are efforts aimed at having talks with so called moderate Saudi citizens in Al Ehsaa and Al Qatif Shiite majority regions in the Kingdom or Shiites from Iraq, Iran and other parts of the world.

Sheikh AI Manea said several Saudi clerics are involved in preparing for the said talks.

This Wahhabi cleric expressed confidence that Shiite scholars will participate in the talks with the aim of attaining the truth.

In August 2015, a senior Islamic scholar in Iran, Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi welcomed a call by the Grand Imam of the al-Azhar Mosque, Egypt’s top Muslim authority, for a unity meeting of leading Sunni and Shiite scholars.

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi sent a letter to al-Azhar’s Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, proposing a conference between top Shiite and Sunni scholars “to review the most important obstacles in the way of Islamic unity” and “to set forth the most significant, necessary measures for reinforcing Islamic unity,” the Iranian cleric’s international affairs adviser Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini Qazvini told reporters, without specifying the date the letter was sent.

The call by Sheikh Tayeb had been aired on Egypt’s state TV on July 22 at the end of a series of programs during the holy month of Ramadan.
