Iranian Movie Won 2 Rewards at 69th Cannes Film Festival

Alwaght- Iranian movie “The Salesman” directed by Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi won two rewards at 69th Cannes Film Festival on Sunday night.

Iranian Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi and actor Shahab Hosseini have won the rewards for the best screenplay and the best actor at Cannes respectively.

Starring Hosseini, “The Salesman” got the Best Screenplay during the 69th edition of the festival Sunday and brought the Iranian superstar the Best Actor.

“I’d like to thank the jury, to thank Cannes and to thank Asghar who gave me back my confidence. I know that I owe this prize to my people. I dedicate it to them, with all my love, and with all my heart,” said Hosseini after receiving the award.

Iranian actress Taraneh Alidousti was also present at the closing ceremony of the festival in the southern French city.

Premiered Saturday, the movie portrays Ra’ana (Alidousti) and Emad (Hosseini), a couple who are acting in the Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller.

The movie grabbed global attention as it became the first Iranian film to win an Oscar, the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, also bagging the Golden Globe Award for best international film.

Farhadi’s the Past (Le Passé) had been nominated for a Palme d’Or in 2013.
