Israeli Forces Kill Palestinian Girl in Al-Khalil

Sunday 14 February 2016
Israeli Forces Kill Palestinian Girl in Al-Khalil

Alwaght- Israeli regime forces murdered a teenage Palestinian girl in al-Khalil’s (Hebron) Old City on Saturday morning at one of the gates leading to the Ibrahimi Mosque.

Eyewitnesses say that Israeli regime troops manning a roadblock at the southeastern entrance to the Ibrahimi Mosque fired a number of bullets at the minor and prevented anyone from approaching her.

A photo of the girl covered with a black plastic bag indicated that she was killed on the spot. The eye witnesses said that the girl, 15 or 16 years old, had stabbed a heavily armed Israeli trooper before being shot dead, noting that an Israeli ambulance evacuated the soldier. The Palestinian ministry of health confirmed the news and identified the girl as Kildar al-Eweiwei from al-Khalil city.

Israeli regime troops are quick to shoot to kill any Palestinian civilian trying or planning to stab occupation troops since the al Aqsa (Jerusalem) Intifada erupted on the 1st October 2015.

Nearly 175 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli regime forces and settlers since a wave of unrest spread across the occupied Palestinian territory in October.

The unrest has been marked by a surge of small-scale attacks carried out by Palestinian individuals -- predominantly on Israeli military targets -- which have left over 25 Israelis dead.

The majority of Palestinians suspected of carrying out attacks have been shot dead on site, but investigations by rights groups have reported that a number of Palestinians killed did not pose sufficient threat for the use of lethal force at the time of their death.

Al Khalil area in particular grew as the epicenter of upheaval during the months of November and December, and over 40 Palestinians have been killed in the district since recent unrest began, during attacks and clashes.

The checkpoint near the Ibrahimi Mosque where Saturday's stabbing took place is located in Al Khalil’s Old City, which has been designated as a "closed military zone" by the Israeli army since November.

Palestinian residents of the area have had to register under a number system in order to pass through the Old City's nearly 20 military checkpoints, and locals have reported heavier restrictions imposed by the Israeli regime’s army.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon last month said that it was “human nature” for Palestinians to react violently to Israel’s decades-long military occupation, and urged change in Israel’s policies in the occupied area.
