UNICEF reports over 50 children killed in Gaza’s Jabalia by Israel in 48 hours

UNICEF reports over 50 children killed in Gaza’s Jabalia by Israel in 48 hours

ALWAGHT- UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell stated that the Israeli killing of over 50 children in Jabalia, northern Gaza, during a "deadly" 48-hour period marks another "dark chapter" in the "horrific" war against the besieged region.

UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell released a statement highlighting the severe impact of Israeli military actions on civilians in Gaza, noting that over 50 children have been killed in Jabalia within the last 48 hours due to airstrikes that destroyed residential buildings. She emphasized the threats faced by humanitarian workers, particularly in sensitive operations such as polio vaccination.

Russell reported an incident in which a UNICEF staff member's vehicle was fired upon in Jabalia-Elnazla, causing damage but leaving the individual unharmed. Additionally, she mentioned that at least three children were injured in a separate attack near a vaccination clinic during a polio campaign.

Condemning the attacks, Russell characterized them as part of a broader Israeli strategy of indiscriminate strikes on civilians. She pointed out that these actions are contributing to an escalating crisis, further darkening the already devastating conflict and worsening the humanitarian situation.

Stressing the importance of international humanitarian law, Russell called for immediate action to protect civilians and hold accountable those responsible for attacks on humanitarian workers. She highlighted the dire conditions facing the Palestinian population, particularly children, who are at risk from violence, disease, and starvation amid ongoing military operations.
