ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi states that the BRICS bloc of emerging economies is evolving into a new global power, with its members seeking to challenge Western dominance and unilateralism.
On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi highlighted BRICS' increasing influence as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his delegation arrived in Kazan, Russia, to attend the 2024 BRICS summit. This marks the first time Iran is participating as an official member at the head-of-state level, with Araghchi emphasizing BRICS' role in challenging the Western-dominated global order.
Araghchi pointed out that BRICS members are developing political, security, and economic mechanisms, including the establishment of a new development bank, to counter Western monopoly and enhance global influence. He noted that BRICS is evolving into a new global power bloc.
He also mentioned the growing interest in BRICS membership, with around 30 countries seeking to join. At the summit, 10 additional countries are expected to be added as partners. President Pezeshkian will deliver keynote speeches on economic cooperation, multilateralism, and partnerships among developing countries.
Furthermore, Pezeshkian will hold bilateral meetings with leaders from Russia, China, Egypt, and other nations to strengthen Iran's economic and diplomatic ties within the BRICS framework. The bloc, originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, now includes Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, representing about 28% of the global economy.
