IAEA Chief Looks Forward to Engaging with Iran’s New Administration

ALWAGHT- IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed the UN nuclear agency's eagerness to visit Tehran and engage with the new Iranian administration. He reported receiving a response from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian regarding assurances about the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.

In an interview with Al Arabiya television, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi detailed the agency’s plans to collaborate with Iran’s new administration.

When asked about his request to visit Iran and meet with President Masoud Pezeshkian, Grossi confirmed, “Yes, I have received a response from President Pezeshkian, indicating a willingness for concrete dialogue to obtain credible assurances and guarantees regarding the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.”

Grossi noted that there are still unresolved issues and unanswered questions for the IAEA, which the international community is eager to see addressed. He expressed hope that a meeting with President Pezeshkian can occur soon, stating, “I am prepared to travel to Tehran to continue the dialogue and engage with the new president, as I have with his predecessors.”

Grossi also refuted claims of IAEA silence on Iran’s nuclear file following the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in May. He explained, “This silence was a natural result of the transition period. I had visited Tehran in May and had significant discussions with the late Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian and previously with President Raisi.”
