ALWAGHT- Sergei Shoigu, Russia's Security Council Secretary, arrives in Tehran for discussions with senior Iranian officials amid heightened regional tensions following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Hamas resistance movement, last week.
During his one-day visit to Tehran on Monday, Sergei Shoigu plans to meet with Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, and Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri.
Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran on July 31 while attending the swearing-in ceremony of President Pezeshkian.
According to the Russian Security Council, the talks will focus on enhancing a wide range of bilateral cooperation, including security, trade, economic projects, and various aspects of global and regional security.
Earlier on Monday, Iran condemned Israel's assassination of Haniyeh as a "blatant violation" of international laws, reaffirming Tehran's inherent right to retaliate against the aggressor.
