Iran cautions IAEA against being exploited by certain member states

ALWAGHT- Iran’s acting foreign minister states that the exploitation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) by certain member states for political purposes will undoubtedly harm the UN nuclear watchdog.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet session on Wednesday, Ali Bagheri Kani emphasized that the IAEA is a technical agency and expects all countries, including those on the IAEA Board of Governors, to adhere to its technical approach.

“The non-constructive exploitation of the agency’s capacity by some member countries for political goals will undoubtedly harm the agency’s identity, its functioning, and its specialized role,” he stated.

Bagheri Kani also noted that Iran has consistently advised various countries to allow the agency to maintain its technical and specialized role, rather than turning it into a platform for political agendas.

On Tuesday, Iran submitted a note to the IAEA regarding recent reports presented by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to the Board of Governors, urging the agency to maintain impartiality in its reports on Iran’s nuclear activities.

In an address to the IAEA Board of Governors on Monday, Grossi reiterated his previous claims about Iran’s lack of cooperation on certain issues, alleging that Iran has yet to provide “technically credible explanations” for the presence of uranium particles at two of its nuclear sites.
