ALWAGHT- Colombian President Gustavo Petro has stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be remembered in history as a "perpetrator of genocide."
In a post on X on Sunday, Petro drew parallels between Netanyahu and Nazis, as the two leaders engage in a social media dispute following a diplomatic rift stemming from Israel's aggressive military campaign against the Gaza Strip.
"Mister Netanyahu, you will be remembered as a perpetrator of genocide. Bombing thousands of innocent children, women, and elderly individuals does not elevate you to the status of a hero," he wrote.
"You align yourself with those responsible for the deaths of millions of Jews in Europe. Genocide, regardless of its religious context, remains genocide. It's time to halt the ongoing violence," he further stated.
This statement follows Netanyahu's characterization of Petro as "an anti-Semitic supporter of Hamas" after the Colombian leader's call for the Israeli prime minister's apprehension over the killing of Palestinians in Gaza.
Earlier, on Friday, Petro urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, pointing to Israel's actions in Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of nearly 35,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children.
Earlier in the month, the Colombian president declared the severance of diplomatic relations with the Israeli government due to its ongoing campaign of genocide in the Gaza Strip.
"If Palestine perishes, humanity perishes, and we will not allow either to perish," Petro emphasized.
