Alwaght- Angry protests persist in the southern provinces of Yemen that are administered by Saudi-acked government due to the worsening economic and living conditions and the severe devaluation of the national currency against other foreign currencies.
On Sunday, hundreds of residents from the Khawr Amira area in the Al-Ararah district of Lahij province staged a protest, joined by leaders and members of the Revolutionary Movement Council, influential figures, and social personalities, according to Al-Masirah TV.
This demonstration aimed to condemn the financial and administrative corruption of the Saudi-backed government and the deterioration of living standards, economic conditions, and public services.
Media outlets reported that the protesters denounced that unprecedented slump of national currency value against foreign currencies which has led to rallying food prices just days away from the holy month of Ramadan.
The residents of the Al-Ararah district in Lahij attributed the economic downturn and the worsening plight of citizens to the US-Saudi aggression, the Saudi-Emirati occupation, the Saudi-backed government, and the so-called Transitional Council. They warned of further escalation and vowed to stage a popular uprising if the economic collapse persists and if urgent and substantial economic reforms are not implemented.
The economic collapse has had a severe impact on the living conditions of citizens in the occupied southern provinces, to the extent that the Saudi-backed government is unable to fulfill its obligation to pay teachers' salaries. This dire situation underscores the urgent need for comprehensive economic reforms and interventions to address the currency crisis and alleviate its impact on the population.
