Alwaght- Iran mining and metals products' exports rose by 12% year on year in the calendar month to late April, according to figures published in local media.
A Tuesday report by the official IRNA news agency said that Iran’s mining and metals exports had reached $951.9 million in the month to April 20.
The report said shipments had also increased by 55% in volume terms year on year in April to reach 4.687 million metric tons (mt).
Exports of raw steel and steel products accounted for $491.7 million or 51.6% of the total exports from the Iranian mining and metals sector over the month to late April, it said.
Figures in the report showed that Iran’s iron ore exports had generated $125.3 million in hard currency revenues over the month to April while copper exports reached $58.4 million over the same period.
A senior official from state mining and metals company IMIDRO said that lower supply of gas to Iranian copper smelters had caused a drop in exports in the month to late April.
IMIDRO’s head of economy and investment development Amir Sabbagh said, however, that Iran’s iron pellet and sponge iron exports had experienced a major jump in April.
The IRNA report said that Iran had imported some 0.281 million mt worth just over $300 million of mining and metals products in the month to late April, up 55% in value terms and 19% in volume terms compared to the same period last year.
