Alwaght- Iran says that it emphasizes the Syrian right for self-defense in the face of intermittent Israeli attacks on its territories, said Iran's permanent envoy to the UN Amir-Saeed Irvani.
Irvani made the remarks on Tuesday, addressing a meeting of the world body's Security Council.
“Security and stability in northern Syria will only come about through complete preservation of and respect for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.
“Whatever military operation against northern Syria could [either] pose a challenge to or even worsen the humanitarian situation [there]," Press TV quoted him as saying.
According to Iravani, recurrent Israeli violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its deliberate targeting of the Arab country's civilians and civilian infrastructures, amounted to contravention of the international and humanitarian laws as well as the UN Charter.
The Iranian envoy called for the UN body to condemn the Israeli incursions and “terrorist attacks” in Syria.
Since the Syrian conflict started in 2011, Israeli warplanes have been striking Syrian army and government positions intermittently, exploiting Damascus involvement in war against a litany of foreign-backed terrorist groups.
