Alwaght- Iraqi security forces are advancing in the liberation operations of Ramadi from the north and the east of the ISIS infested region.
The head of the security committee in the Khalidiyah Council in Anbar province, Ibrahim Fahdawi, announced on Tuesday the progress, adding that there is heavy shelling of ISIS strongholds by Iraqi forces.
Fahdawi said in an interview with IraqiNews.com, “The security forces supported by al-Hashed al-Shaabi (Public Mobilization Forces) are advancing in the liberation operations of Ramadi from the north and the east.”
Fahdawi said that “the security forces advanced from the northern axis and were able to reach the outskirts of Jirashi between Abu Diab area and Anbar Operations Command,” adding that “the security forces advanced from the east axis in Husaybah areas and al-Madyaq.”
Fahdawi stated that “Iraqi warplanes continue bombing prominent ISIS locations in Khalidiya island and Ramadi and its surroundings,” noting that “the ISIS suffered heavy material and human losses.”
The ISIS terrorists currently control swathes of territory across Syria and Iraq. They have committed terrible atrocities in both countries, including mass executions and beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals.
Since August 2014, the US and some of its allies have been conducting airstrikes against what they say are ISIS positions in Iraq. Despite the presence of the so called international coalition, on May 17, the ISIS terrorists managed to bring Ramadi under their control.
The Popular Mobilization forces, one of the volunteer groups who have joined the Iraqi army, were dispatched to Anbar after Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi called on them to join the fight to drive the Takfiri terrorists out of Ramadi.
Some of the countries joining the so-called anti-terror coalition, such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, have been the staunch supporters of ISIS and other terrorists groups in the region.
