Alwaght- The US President Donald Trump will discuss with the Congress new wave of sanctions against Russia after November 6, an administration spokesman has said.
The main motivation for the new restriction is the case of Sergei Skripal poisoning in Britain along with his daughter on March 4. Russia denied involvement in the attempted assassination of the double agent.
In a briefing, the Department of State’s deputy spokesman Robert Palladino on Thursday said that the law makes it compulsory for the administration to talk a new wave of sanctions against Moscow should the latter declines to meet the American conditions.
He said that a timetable for the discussion is yet to be set.
He said that the sanctions will not be imposed should the Russian authorities guarantee that they will not use chemical weapons in the future and assure the international observers of that.
If Russia does not provide such guarantees before November 6, the US will have to discuss the second wave of Skripal case-related sanctions on Russia, according to the spokesman.
The first wave of US sanctions against Russia came in August. According to the restrictions, Washington banned exports of material with double uses to Russia.
The second wave may lower the level of diplomatic representation between the two countries.
In early March, the former Russian intelligence officer, who was living in Britain following ending his jail term in Russia on charges of spying for the Western intelligence services, came under a nerve agent attack, according to the British officials.
London and other Western parties rushed to point the fingers of blame to Russia. Moscow strongly denied any involvement.
