Iran Slams London Attack, Urges Global Anti-Terror Front

Iran Slams London Attack, Urges Global Anti-Terror Front

Alwaght- Iran has slammed Wednesday's terrorist attack in London and urged the formation of a real international coalition against terrorism.

In a statement on Thursday, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi expressed Iran’s sympathy with the families of the victims as well as those injured in the brutal car-ramming and stabbing attack outside the UK Parliament in London.

The senior Iranian diplomat further reiterated the need for the formation of an all-inclusive global alliance aimed at “sincerely” fighting terrorism free from “double standards.”

He further warned, “No country can consider itself immune from terrorism and terrorists as long as we witness the [establishment of] inefficient and theatrical coalitions at international and regional levels to fight terror as well as the double standards being pursued by the Western countries in countering this heinous and inhumane phenomenon.”

Today, terrorism knows no borders,” said the Iranian official. “In order to uproot this evil and odious phenomenon, the channels for sending arms and equipment to the terrorists should be cut and the financial and moral support for the countries and groups disseminating terrorist ideas should be stopped.”

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May says the Westminster assailant was British-born and known to the country’s domestic intelligence agency, MI5, and had been investigated before.

"What I can confirm is that the man was British-born and that some years ago he was once investigated by MI5 in relation to concerns about violent extremism," she told MPs on Thursday, a day after an attack outside the UK Parliament in London which left at least five people dead, including the assailant, and 40 others injured.

"He was a peripheral figure," she added. "The case is historic, he was not part of the current intelligence picture."

Meanwhile, ISIS Takfiri terrorist group has claimed, through its propaganda outlet, that a member of the group carried out the Westminster attack.
