Alwaght- A bomb attack claimed by ISIS terrorist group at Syrian border-town with Turkey killed over 36 Turkey-backed militants and injured dozens more on Thursday.
Al-Msdar News reported that most of the killed in Atmeh crossing border were militants fighting under the Turkish-backed Operation Euphrates Shield, including Ahrar al-Sham military commander Hisham Khalifah, Failaq al-Sham, and head of Supreme Judiciary Authority in Aleppo, Khalid al-Sayyed.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack via an official statement released on its self-style news agency, Aamaq Agency.
Pro-rebel activists reported the attack was carried by either an exclusive vest of a booby-trapped handbag, ruling out the narrative circulated on social media about a VBIED explosion.
Turkish tanks entered Syrian territory last month in a preemptive move to prevent Kurdish armed militants from advancing further toward its southern border.
Ankara claims the operation is also to fight ISIS terrorists in the region. Damascus condemned the operation as an aggression against its territory.
