Alwaght- Western-Saudi-backed Bahraini regime issued a statement saying that 72 people were stripped of their nationality claiming that they failed “in their allegiance duties towards the kingdom” and “harmed its interests.”
Bahraini regime courts have sentenced more than 200 activists to long term prison sentences on charges of involvement in terrorist activities and acting against the national security. At least 70 activists have received life imprisonment since the uprising began in Bahrain in 2011.
A recent report by Human Rights Watch (HRW) said that Bahraini regime courts have become more active in sustaining repression in the country.
“Further evidence emerged [in 2014] of the role that its (Bahrain's) courts play in maintaining the repressive order,” HRW said in its World Report 2015 which was released last Thursday.
Bahrain's monarchy has repeatedly revoked the nationality of citizens deemed a security threat -- a policy condemned by rights groups -- but the decision announced on Saturday was the largest of its kind.
"The ruler of Bahrain revoked my citizenship today without a court, any charges or clear evidence of why," United Kingdom-based Bahraini blogger and activist Ali Abdulemam wrote on Twitter.
It is worth noting that, according to formal data, the Bahraini regime authorities nationalized more than 95 thousand foreigners or about 17% of the population, who are mainly Sunnis, in order to modify the demographic structure in the country.
On the other hand the Bahraini regime is revoking citizenships for many Bahraini Shiites, who are from the opposition, especially scholars who may have more influence in the peaceful opposition to the Bahraini monarchy.
Bahrain’s main opposition party, al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, announced that the recent move by the Al Khalifa regime to revoke the citizenship of dozens of Bahrainis was aimed at silencing the opposition groups.
In a statement on Sunday, al-Wefaq said the revocation of the citizenship of 72 Bahrainis, 50 of whom are from the opposition, is in line with the Bahraini government’s moves to crack down on the peaceful protests in the Persian Gulf country.
Al-Wefaq said that the Bahraini regime seeks to shuffle the cards between opposition citizens who are demanding democracy and terrorist militants abroad whom are said to be belonging to the terrorist group ISIS. The statement said on Saturday following the announcement of the Bahraini regime dropping the nationality of 72 Bahrainis, including 50 citizens of the opposition, "it has been observed that from those whom their citizenship has been revoked, are bearers of weapons and terrorist militants abroad, whom are believed to belong to ISIS, trying to mix issues between opposition and those carrying out terrorist acts abroad, where about 50 residents of those are who chose to be in the opposition demanding democratic transition in Bahrain."
The statement added that the Al Khalifa regime does not adhere to the international law and uses the option to revoke the nationality of political activists as a tool to exert pressure on them and silence the voices of opposition.
The Bahrain Human Rights Society also described the move as “disastrous”, and called on the regime to remove the option from the list of its “political adventurism”.
Earlier in November 2014, the Bahrain regime had threatened to take away Bahraini nationality from those who refuse to vote in the parliamentary elections on November 22, which were boycotted by opposition groups.
The ruling Al-Khalifa regime has launched a heavy-handed crackdown on the peaceful anti-government movement in Bahrain, which started in 2011.
The Al Khalifa regime is pressing ahead with its crackdown on opposition, after it arrested Sheikh Salman, a senior cleric and the leader of the main opposition party al-Wefaq, on December 27.
Since then the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom has seen an escalation of protests over the past months after the regime arrested Sheikh Ali Salman.
The Bahraini regime led by Al-Khalifa family is mainly a puppet regime of US, Britain, and Saudi Arabia, following the Western agenda in oppressing all who stand up against the interests of the regional monarchies and are demanding a democratic transition in the political system.
Even though Bahraini regime's Western allies claim to promote human rights but their puppet Bahraini regime is actually condemned for violating all measure of human rights. It has been reported that the Bahraini regime has illegally arrested many from the peaceful opposition members and tortured them brutally in their jails, killed some of the revolutionaries, revoked many citizenships of national opposition members, and on the other hand nationalized many foreign Sunnis to change the demographic distribution.
All these actions are not condemned by Bahraini regime's Western allies since Bahrain is a strategic ally serving their interests in the area.
For example, the US has important strategic interests in Bahrain, including the US Navy's Fifth Fleet – patrolling oil shipping lanes, keeping an eye on Iran, and its involvement in the airstrikes on Syria and Iraq.
Once again hypocrisy is being portrayed in Western foreign diplomacy through their puppet regimes in the Islamic region.
