ALWAGHT- Iran's Foreign Ministry criticized the baseless accusations made by Argentine officials alleging Iranian involvement in the bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires during the 1990s.
In a statement on Saturday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani criticized the unjustified remarks made by Argentina’s justice minister and the president’s office, accusing Iranian nationals of involvement in the AMIA bombing.
Kanaani expressed condolences to the families affected on the 30th anniversary of the incident, emphasizing that uncovering the truth and achieving a definitive resolution to this case requires Argentina’s relevant authorities to refrain from politicizing the issue and resisting external influences, as reported on the ministry’s website.
He urged Argentine officials to refrain from hostile statements and actions towards Iran, cautioning against compromising Argentina’s national interests and bilateral relations under pressure from anti-Iran agendas orchestrated by the Israeli-US alliance of interests.
In 2013, Argentina’s Senate approved an agreement with Iran to establish a fact-finding committee to investigate the bombing of the AMIA Jewish center in 1994, which resulted in the deaths of 85 people.
AMIA refers to the Asociacion Mutual Israelita Argentina, or the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association.
