ALWAGHT- Following the baseless claims made by the Arab League, Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, has submitted a letter of protest to the UN Security Council.
In this letter, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns and categorically rejects the unfounded and wrongful accusations against its sovereignty and territorial integrity mentioned in paragraph 11 of the Arab League's statement, deeming this an obvious and unjust interference in the country's internal affairs.
The letter states: This action not only contradicts the spirit of good neighborliness but also clearly violates fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter, especially the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries. The Islamic Republic of Iran once again emphasizes its undeniable sovereignty over the Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb in the Persian Gulf.
The Islamic Republic of Iran also strongly condemns the use of a fictitious name for the Persian Gulf in paragraphs 11 and 16 of the aforementioned statement, deeming it unacceptable.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has emphasized that "Persian Gulf" is the only legal and valid geographical name for this body of water, a name that has been in use since ancient times. All reputable global cartographic organizations recognize and respect this maritime region as the "Persian Gulf".
