Alwaght- The UN Security Council members have adopted a resolution calling for "immediate" stop to the genocidal Israeli war on Gaza.
The resolution that passed was written by the 10 elected members to the council, and proposed in the chamber by Mozambique’s representative.
The resolution also called for release of Israeli prisoners held by Hamas.
14 members of the UNSC voted for the resolution, but the US envoy abstained.
The resolution appears to have further exposed deepening US isolation on the world stage, at least regarding Gaza war as it is an unwavering supporter to the Israeli regime in its military campaign in the besieged enclave.
This is the first time the UNSC is passing such a resolution calling for a ceasefire.
Moscow attempted to amend the text by restoring it to an earlier draft, according to the Guardian, which included the word “permanent”, but the bid failed.
Inclusion of the the word "permanent" could risk drawing a veto by the backers of Israeli war, on top of them the US and Britain.
The resolution is expected to trigger Israeli strong tone against Biden administration as Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier threatened to cancel a planned delegation to Washington if the US did not exercise its veto, reported the Guardian.
